Affordable Summer Holiday in North Zealand — 7 Reasons for Camping

Summer is approaching, and you may have already looked at hotel prices and thought: “There has to be a better way.” There it is. A camping holiday in North Zealand offers you nature, beach, culture, and freedom — at a fraction of the price. Here are our 7 best reasons to pitch your tent or park your caravan with us in Frederiksværk.

One night's stay costs less than a pizza in Copenhagen

A campsite with us costs 110 Danish kroners per night — and that's not a mistake. A caravan or camper van spot including 2 people costs 160 Danish kroners. And here's the kicker: children between 0 and 18 years old camp completely free. A family of two adults and two children therefore pays 160 kr. per night for a caravan pitch. Try to find the price of a hotel.

All prices include VAT, free WiFi, free parking, and access to our shared kitchen and bathrooms. There are no hidden fees.

2. Sjælland's best beach is 6 km away

Liseleje Beach is one of Zealand's most child-friendly bathing beaches—fine white sand, shallow water far out, and dunes you can climb on. The trip from our site takes 10 minutes by car or 25 minutes by bike along the beautiful coastal route. Pack your beach blanket, put on sunscreen, and spend the whole day.

If you prefer the wild coastline, Hundested Strand is only a 15-minute drive in the other direction—with Knud Rasmussen's House as a bonus.

3. The best experiences are free

North Zealand is full of experiences that don't cost a penny. Walk along the 303-year-old Frederiksværk Canal, hike in the King's North Zealand National Park, cycle to Arresø and observe the birdlife from the bird towers, play on our playground, or spend a whole afternoon in the forest with a picnic basket.

All overnight campers with us also get 1 free canoe trip included in your stay. It's an experience that normally costs 100 kr. — and the children love it.

4. I live in the city CENTER AND in the middle of nature

The unique thing about Frederiksværk Camping is that you don't have to choose. The site is literally in the middle of Frederiksværk — 200 m to the supermarket, 300 m to the pedestrian street, and 650 m to the train station. But when you're sitting at your spot, the only things you hear are birdsong and deer walking by. The canal runs through our backyard, and it's green and lush everywhere.

This means you never need the car: go shopping, eat out, or take the train to Hillerød and Frederiksborg Castle. Freedom without logistics.

5. 45 minutes from Copenhagen—a world away

Frederiksværk is located just 45 km north of Copenhagen. This makes it easy to combine a city break with camping life. Take a day trip to Tivoli Gardens, Strøget (the main shopping street), or the Blue Planet aquarium — and then head “home” to peace, quiet, and grilled sausages in the evening.

In the immediate vicinity, you will also find Frederiksborg Castle (20 min), Fredensborg Palace (25 min), and Louisiana Museum of Modern Art (35 min). A week is almost not enough to see it all.

6. Not the camping type? We have alternatives

Not everyone is here for tents and sleeping bags — and that's perfectly fine. We also have cozy cabins, from small, simple cabins with shared bathrooms to fully equipped mobile homes with their own kitchen, bathroom, and toilet. And our hostel offers 30 charming rooms for families, couples, and groups.

Common to all accommodation types: You still stay in the middle of nature, enjoy free WiFi and parking, and have access to all our facilities. Prices and availability can be viewed online.

7. An atmosphere you will remember for a long time

It's hard to put into words, but there's a reason we're called Fredfyldt (Peaceful). It's the evening when the children play between the cabins while you grill with your neighbor from the spot next door. It's the morning when you wake up to birdsong and make coffee outdoors. It's the casual conversation with the host at the reception that ends with you knowing all the town's best secrets.

We are not the biggest place, the fanciest, or the most modern. But we are authentic, we are warm, and we mean it when we say: there is room for everyone here.

Price example: A week's vacation for a family with 2 children

Campervan pitch incl. 2 adults: 160 kr. × 7 nights = 1,120 kr.
Children 0-18 years: Free
The pr. day: 60 kr. × 7 = 420 kr.
Canoeing (1 hour free, 2 extra hours): 200 DKK.

Total: 1,740 kr for a full week's vacation with canoe and electricity.

In comparison, one night in an average hotel in North Zealand costs approximately DKK 1,200-1,800 for a family.

Summer awaits — make it cheap and unforgettable
